Sex Education… Monty Python Style!

It’s simple. Either you’re old enough to remember Monty Python, or you were intrigued enough to blow the dust of your mum and dads video cassettes. If you just don’t know what the hell I’m on about – Stay with me here.

This video shows a clip from the legendary 1983 film ‘Monty Python’s Meaning of Life.’ The clip depicts possibly one of the most famous and notable moments of television history. John Cleese uses a somewhat unusual, shocking and thoroughly cringe-worthy method of teaching sex education. Forget dolls, biology videos and anything thing else remotely normal. John Cleese erects a 4 poster bed and has full (step by step) sex with his assistant in front of a rather uncomfortable class of ‘teenage’ boys, although some looked like they reached puberty 15 year earlier!

Fantastic, hilarious and dare I say, groundbreaking for the age. 28 years later, this clip is still excellent. In fact I suggest you do one better… buy the digitally remastered DVD and laugh from beginning to end.

Beth and Adele’s own content for this week

After careful consideration we decided to join forces for our final ‘own content’ feature. This is our video that we made, it’s dedicated to Lady Gaga and Beyonce, and it’s of us ‘singing’ Telephone.

It took us a whiillee to film because as you can imagine – we couldn’t stop laughing. But after a few takes we nailed it 🙂

I’m FROM Essex girl

Love it or hate it The Only Way is Essex is back on our screens. I usually do the cutesy videos but after seeing the new episodes I just had to vent my frustration. As the Vidpick’s resident Essex ‘bird’ I have more annoyance when it comes to this show than most. I’ve been asked at least ten times: “Is it really like that in Essex?” by people at uni who are intrigued and probably disgusted by the show, and my answer to that question is – no.

Brentwood, where the show is set, is 20 minutes away from where I live, so I know the clubs and the ‘landmarks’ they point out, yet I see no resemblance to the reality of it on the show. I’d love to say we all drive BMW’s, get vajazzled and aspire to be the next Katie Price, but the reality is far from the soap-like show we all see on our screens.

Watching their bad acting, clearly put on accents and over the top antics makes me cringe. It’s so awful, that I get why it makes great telly. But as an Essex girl, I hate the fact it just adds to the stereotypes, people even from abroad have of the county.

We already have a tarnished reputation, and with people seriously asking me if Essex is like it is in the programme, it’s proof that the ‘Essex girl’ tag is not going anywhere any time soon!

It’s all staged. Come to Essex and see for yourself.
