The Facebook filter

Saw this video flying around Facebook and when I saw it I knew I’d have to post it, this video is beyond cute. In my opinion Facebook is probably the next best place to find the greatest content on the net, (after VidPick of course) because it has already been through a process of acceptance, gathered momentum through the social networks and gained thousands of hits from adoring fans, what more could you want?

This then made me think about Facebook as more than a social platform, instead like a filter with billions of critics (that would be you) who pass on good and bad reviews of videos they find to their 126 friends who in turn do the same to their 87 friends, and so on. YouTube may display the videos, be it great ones or not so great ones, but it’s up to the regular users of the website to promote the ones that make them think, “ah this would make Tom crack up,” in order for the link to be posted onto ‘Toms’ profile.

It is a ripple effect. The video creates the splash but without people linking and recommending the video there won’t be any ripples. Ripples are only created when users bother to tell a friend about the ‘hilarious’ video they just saw, or post it on Facebook for all their friends to check out. Without social networking video’s would only be viewed and liked by a user stumbling across the content. Facebook and Twitter however, deliberately direct people to one particular video unlike YouTube which displays millions, so unfortunately the chances of becoming a YouTube hit is very, very slim indeed. Damn it, I really thought my attempt at The Chinese Boys was going to get me famous ha.

Pushy parents of the YouTube generation

With the opportunity to showcase your children, not only to friends and family, but to people all across the globe, the obsession with uploading these cute videos is creating a generation of YouTube babies.

No longer are children pulled from pillar to post to audition, instead, they are now captured on film doing sweet or outrageous things to gain them, and more importantly their pushy parents, YouTube hits. The fixation with making children into superstars used to involve beauty pageants, excessive sporting events and other similar delights, but the internet has made it even easier to put your children out there without having to make as much effort. The baby in this video didn’t even have to wake up! In a world where our lives orbit around technology, we seem to have no boundaries when it comes to the exposure of the next generation. Images and videos of young babies, toddlers and school children are so freely uploaded without any thought about how this content could be used.

Like I have said in an earlier post, if we give everything about us and our family to the cyberworld, what do we have left to ourselves? With photo albums collecting dust and home videos having seen better days, it’s seems their time is over, but the infatuation of documenting absolutely everything is far from finished.

So, why do parents record their children? Clearly it’s because they think their children are amazing. Or in the case of this video, our grown up star probably thought the world couldn’t live without seeing his pupeetering skills.

Cute baby though!

The cutest ever way to ask someone out, boys take note

Now this is one of the sweetest things that’s ever been caught on camera. Move over dancing babies and puppies chasing their tails, this is THE video with the cute factor. Even discerning judge Simon Cowell would agree.

Ziedrick is the man. Never before has asking someone on a date been so cute, or original, or creative, because boys generally don’t make that much effort (I tend to get texts). Once you see this you won’t doubt that Ziedrick really is the man.

What a great advert this would make. It’s not like those amateur videos you always come across, because it actually has some creative flare. As you can probably tell I really like this video 🙂

Watch out for Allan Aranzaso on Vimeo. I expect great things from this young man. Let me know what you think!

Dogs in costume creep me out!

Pets wearing clothes isn’t exactly what I’d class as ‘cute’. I can see Paris Hilton wanting these costumes for her infamous Chihuahua, Tinkerbell. Making ooohhing and aaaahhing noises at the sight of their little jackets, but for most of us our pets are cute enough without the silly outfits.

These dogs look completely unnatural thanks to their owner, who along with shoving the camera in their faces whilst dressed up and sat upright, also spoke to them in the MOST annoying voice. Please note he is American, which is where the whole hideous concept of fashion for animals came from. Celebrities such as Paris Hilton made the trend yet another fashion accessory after her pooch was caught on camera all dressed up.

Latest trend: an accessorised doggie

Dogs, or any pets for that matter, do not look cute when their owners dress them up like children. To me it’s a little cruel and really unnecessary.

All I can say is dogs already have clothes…its called their fur! Stay away from the costumes…

A life online

Friend request from Bradley Jones. Accept? Yes. Before he even has the chance to introduce himself you already know he’s a huge Chelsea fan, has three sisters and you both have 33 friends in common. Oh, and don’t forget you don’t like the way he looks. You can tell from his pictures on holiday in Portugal.
The internet has officially taken away all the mystery of who you are. Your youtube videos as a hormonal teenager, your Facebook likes and dislikes, as well as your blog entries have told the world all about you, no questions asked.

Documenting your life on the net is the latest social frenzy. But maybe there’s too much of everyone’s personal information out there? If you ask me we all need a little more mystique, otherwise we how do we get the excitement of getting to know somebody new.

As parents upload videos of their children straight on to the internet, they set them up for a life online. In a few years they will be hounded by constant tagging of pictures from nights out that they’d rather forget. Their chance of landing that dream job hindered as the boss types their name into Facebook and sees the damage.

No-one would argue that most parents want the best for their children, but are cute video’s of them bopping up and down for all to see really necessary? Let’s look at baby Corey, dancing away to Beyonce, who despite the fact he can’t actually walk, already has a Twitter account – CRAZY!

The internet doesn’t have a delete button, things can float around in cyberspace for years, ask Corey when he’s 21. So maybe we should keep that in mind the next time we’re uploading our latest exploit.
