Sex Education… Monty Python Style!

It’s simple. Either you’re old enough to remember Monty Python, or you were intrigued enough to blow the dust of your mum and dads video cassettes. If you just don’t know what the hell I’m on about – Stay with me here.

This video shows a clip from the legendary 1983 film ‘Monty Python’s Meaning of Life.’ The clip depicts possibly one of the most famous and notable moments of television history. John Cleese uses a somewhat unusual, shocking and thoroughly cringe-worthy method of teaching sex education. Forget dolls, biology videos and anything thing else remotely normal. John Cleese erects a 4 poster bed and has full (step by step) sex with his assistant in front of a rather uncomfortable class of ‘teenage’ boys, although some looked like they reached puberty 15 year earlier!

Fantastic, hilarious and dare I say, groundbreaking for the age. 28 years later, this clip is still excellent. In fact I suggest you do one better… buy the digitally remastered DVD and laugh from beginning to end.

Beth and Adele’s own content for this week

After careful consideration we decided to join forces for our final ‘own content’ feature. This is our video that we made, it’s dedicated to Lady Gaga and Beyonce, and it’s of us ‘singing’ Telephone.

It took us a whiillee to film because as you can imagine – we couldn’t stop laughing. But after a few takes we nailed it 🙂

Impersonations

Celebrities and the media are a huge influence in our lives. We want to dress like them, dance like them and now…

sing like them. It’s becoming a big trend for ordinary people to impersonate celebrities. Some are good and some…?

Well it’s up to you to judge

Here is Philip TRYING to sing like Trey Songz. I thought it was pretty average. It’s not going to make Platinum any time soon.

However, I’d give 9 out of ten for effort.

Moving on to Beyonce and her big hit ‘Single Ladies’. During the finals of last year’s ‘Let’s dance for Comic Relief’ Katy Brand gave it a go and it was surprisingly entertaining. The performance was reasonable and I’m not talking about the size difference between her and Beyonce.

I mean, if he can do it…

so can she.

But I’m wondering… why the single ladies dance?

My Chick Bad… Masturbation Parody

Parody; [par-uh-dee]–noun 1. a humorous or satirical imitation of a serious piece of literature, writing or music.

Copyright; copy·right (-rīt′)-noun 1. the exclusive right to the publication, production, or sale of the rights to a literary, dramatic, musical, or artistic work.

Infringement; in·fringe·ment  (in-fringment) noun. 1. A violation, as of a law, regulation, or agreement; a breach.

Copyright Infringement is a simple but biblically confusing way of saying that you copied someone’s work and didn’t pay for the privilege. All things considered, copyright is a very complex way of protecting your own creations. It protects the interests of the artist/creator and ensures that all royalties are paid. In recent months, the Music industry has taken steps to bring legal action to prolific ‘infringers’. The debate is simple. Is it infringement if there is no profit to be gained? This video simply doesn’t care.

To keep in-line with my new laddish angle, I’ve decided to post about a topic that’s close to every lads heart. Masturbation. This parody of ‘My Chick Bad’, by Ludacris and Niki Minaj, takes the p**s. Throwing the original words away and replacing them with a comical flow of profanities, this video will make you chuckle. Simple and amusing, it is one of the better written and punchier ‘rude’ parodies around. Although the video was a bit ‘2mp cameraish’. The masturbation angle gives it the cheeky humour that puts up two fingers to the rules.

The Lonely Island

I’d never taken the time to watch The Lonely Island’s music videos, but I really wish I had sooner because like The Midnight Beast, they generate some big laughs.

The group formed in 2001 where they were united on the set of Saturday Night Live in the US, and became an internet phenomenan after their sketch for Lazy Sunday, which kick-started them to create more. As well as winning Emmy’s for I Just had Sex, Dick In a Box, Like A Boss, Jizz in My Pants, and the grammy nominated I’m On a Boat, the musical trio released an album, Incredibad, in 2009, and are planning to release their new one, Turtleneck and Chain this May. After listening to them with my friends and literally having to wipe away the tears, I downloaded Incredibad, and it cheers me up every time I listen to it. (I would recommend not listening to it in front of your parents or anyone that doesn’t know who they are though. People generally think you’re weird if you stick on a song with the lyrics “I’ll let you do my mother, make me another brother.”)

This video for I Just Had Sex featuring Akon is one of their most recent released. I watched it a few weeks ago and I’ve shared it all over the place since. Blake Lively and Jessica Alba also feature in the video, and I thought it was hilarious that they could be around the guys when they were singing about having sex with a pile of manure and how their penis felt great. The whole thing is just so nonchalant. I would not have been able to keep a straight face.

Just like The Midnight Beast, scoot on over to The Lonely Island’s website and if you have a bit of time to spare and have a watch of their music videos. They’ve worked with loads of celebrities now who clearly don’t take themselves very seriously, and they are good for a couple of laughs.

Minor warning though; if you don’t like offensive lyrics, or major sexual implications they’re probably not for you. I’m alright, but Akon wiggling his bum was enough to make me cringe!

Eruchi: Own content

People always get loads of hits by doing crazy things on YouTube. My aim was to was to create a video with me dancing to one of the most popular songs around…TRIBAL SKANK. Let me know what you think.

The Midnight Beast

To all those out there that haven’t heard of the 3-piece comedic ‘boy-band’ that is The Midnight Beast, you’ve seriously missed out. The band are made up of Stefan Abington, Dru Wakely and Ashley Horne, and together are an unstoppable force of comedy with catchy lyrics, hilarious music video’s and childish dancing that we just can’t get enough of.

They stormed onto the scene in 2009, when they uploaded their parody of Ke$ha’s ‘Tik Tok’ featuring the three of them rapping and dancing in a house with props such as a naked barbie doll and photo of Sarah Palin. Intrigued? Well you should be! The video was a massive success and has over 10 million views on YouTube. Ke$ha herself has actually seen the video, tweeting afterwords; “holy. s**t. this is better than my version.” No offence Ke$ha, but we strongly agree.

As well as this parody, the band have also done covers of Jay Sean’s ‘Down’, and 3 days ago, posted their version of the most annoying song in the world (which me and our scary girl, Beth filmed our reaction too yesterday), Rebecca Black’s ‘Friday’. The video has had over 286,000 views in the past couple of days, had a stint on the front page of YouTube and seems to be getting shared all over sites like Facebook and Twitter.

The boys have just come off their UK tour and have lined up appearances at festivals, including a headline spot on the Festival Republic Stage at Leeds/Reading.

It’s clear that The Midnight Beast are going to go far, and if you like their Ke$ha parody, (and think their ‘almost’ parody of Rebecca Black is funny), I would urge you to have a session on their YouTube channel familiarising yourself with some of their own material, like Booty Call and Just Another Boyband which me and Beth frequently dance around my room to.

Culture Comedy: what’s funny?

Whilst we might think comedy is simply something that makes people laugh, there’s more to it than just cracking a few jokes here and there. Looking around I’ve noticed some serious differences between cultural groups. So let’s take a look at some of the best American, English and African comedians’s and uncover what makes them distinctive.

THE AMERICANS: Black comedians

They often explore topics of wealth, race, sex, swearing and violence. We could say that the Americans are way out there, nothing is off limits. Freedom of expression to the max.

THE ENGLISH:

English comedy explores sarcasm, dry humour and jokes that tend to be understood mainly by the great British nation.

THE AFRICANS:

African comedy reflects genuine stereotypes in African culture and caricartures them. People that recognise the characters in friends and family can’t help but laugh out loud.

Which video do you find most funny?
