The Resident: trailer review.

“In every city, thousands of women live by themselves. But Juliette is not alone”
You know the drill: girl home alone in her brand new seemingly perfect apartment, but then again, is it? It’s as formulaic as horror movies come, with Hollywood offering stuff exactly like this at least twice a year.
The difference with ‘The Resident‘ is that Hillary Swank, as in the A-lister with two Oscars, is in it. This completely goes against the typecast of the beautiful, stick thin, twenty-something woman who’s overacting explains the fact that she is virtually unknown. It also features Jeffrey Dean Morgan (the absolute BEAUT from Grey’s Anatomy and P.S. I Love You) as the creepy psycho, again giving us an actor with a few more chops.
The trailer itself follows the generic route of practically giving the whole film away: girl moves into apartment (of her dreams). Bumps into her landlord (Morgan) at some social event. Starts getting creeped out, just in time for him to take it to the next level by perving on her through a peep hole he’s made. Which leads on to his full on attack. The ending could go two ways – he wins or she does. But it’s pretty obvious where the movie will go, unless there’s a sequel in the pipes.
The peep hole scene takes place whilst she’s in the bath, and is again typical of movies like, they mix this with yet another horror movie stereotype by getting the girl naked.
I could be tempted to watch this film, probably because my expectations are augmented by the inclusion of some great actors – there must have been something good about the script to get them involved. However, I won’t be splashing out at the cinema, I’ll probably wait till it’s on DVD and someone else happens to buy it.
What do you guys think?
